The Differently Abled youth in “Inayum Karangal” programme in Batticaloa

The youth with disabilities were taken to Batticaloa for   two days programme. The programme included Exposure, Experience and Inputs.

On the 28th evening the youth from different places gathered at VAROD Life Rehabilitation Center and there was good interaction between them. The following day morning 5 am the 43 youth denatured to Batticaloa via Polonaruwa. On the way many saw the “Parakrama Samuntram” (A historical place) for the first time. 29th afternoon we reached Batticaloa for the lunch.

 The Evening Programme was arranged at “Mancafe” (A School for children with special need), Uurani for the exposure and interaction with the children with special need arranged by the teachers of the school. The cheerful evening came to end around 6.30 pm.  Night, all shared their expressions of feelings on the day’s event.

The following day, all participated in the religious activities. The Hindus attends the pooja at Anaipanthi Pillayar temple while the Catholics attended the Sunday Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Batticaloa. All the youth have an interaction with the youth from the Pulliyathivu Parish. The Rev. Fr. Ratnakumar, the Parish priest and Rev. Fr. A. Devaseelan CMF the Assistant Parish priest together with the parish youth arranged the second day’s event.  Mr. Pio Jude, the youth animator and experienced social worker was the resource person for the session. His motivating talk had touched many youth with disabilities.

 There were 14 youth form Kilinochchi, 09 from Mullaittivu, 10 from Vavuniya districts and 08 from the VAROD Centers. These 23 boys and 18 boys were accompanied by 6 staff and the Assistant Director.
